Amazing Blackberry Mojito With Mint for Summer
This blackberry mojito with mint, a favorite of Brandy Wendler’s, is fresh and perfect drinking for warmer months. The addition of blackberries to the traditional mojito not only adds a gorgeous magenta hue, but also a sweet-tart flavor that is just sublime.

Jump to RecipeHappy Friday! Today, I’m featuring a cocktail from my sweet friend, the gorgeous Brandy Wendler. The girl is a literal pageant winner; She’s the former Mrs. Alaska, and current Mrs. Northwest International 2013–though if you listen to her closely you’ll know that she’s really from the South. The deep South. Brandy oozes Southern hospitality and charm…not in the bless your heart kind of way, but in the genuine, I actually care about you kind of way. Beyond that, she’s a brilliant advocate for Celiac Disease and the gluten-free lifestyle, traveling far and wide, as part of her official pageant platform, to raise awareness. Professionally she’s no slouch either, as she’s the Director of Infection Control and Employee Health at a hospital in Alaska, where she currently resides with her {equally adorable} military husband.
From Brandy…
I find mojitos to be incredibly refreshing. Maybe it’s because the first man who ever bought me one took my breath away with his charming smile–and we got married. Then again, it could just be the mint. However, its not every day you meet someone who instantly makes your life better. I never liked mixed drinks until my husband had the bartender make me a mojito on the first day we met. After that, it was love (with the drink and the man). While we were dating, he used to make them for me all the time in the summer. For our engagement party, our signature drinks were “Meant to be Mojitos”.
After we were engaged, we went out to eat at Bone Fish Grille, and their featured cocktail that night was a Blackberry Mojito with mint. I couldn’t wait to try it, and just as I expected it was sweet and minty and just plain fun! Now I always ask my husband to add blackberries to my mojitos.
So, in the spirit of love, I wanted to share them with you! Hopefully, they make you as happy as they have made me.
Ok, let’s be honest here, Brandy…I think it’s the man in uniform that has made you happy…not the drink. However, I have tried this cocktail, and I must say, it did elevate my mood–must be all those antioxidants from the berries. Cheers!

Blackberry Mojito
Equipment
Ingredients
- 12 blackberries
- ½ a lime cut into 4 chunks
- ¼ cup loosely packed fresh mint leaves
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 4 ounces white rum or vodka
- soda water to top
Instructions
- Put the blackberries, lime chunks, mint and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Smash with a muddler (or the handle end of a wooden spoon), until berries are crushed.
- Add the rum and ½ cup of ice and shake vigorously.
- Strain the mixture into two highball glasses filled with crushed ice (I also like to open the shaker to pour some of the thicker berry juice into the glasses).
- Top with soda water and serve immediately, garnished with lime and extra berries, if desired.

This allows me to share my recipes with you (and keeps me well fed). THANK YOU!
Just one more thing: Crushed ice is a must! Crushed ice will melt faster, which is a good thing in a drink with such strong flavors. The extra surface area of crushed ice also means a colder drink! 🙂
I’m going to update the recipe now. 🙂
What a refreshing drink! Thanks for sharing your recipe, it would be great for a Saturday evening on the patio watching the sun go down! :<) Thanks again for sharing!
Aww…what a charming love story! Nothing like a man in uniform to sweep a girl off her feet–like Richard Gere did for Debra Winger in An Officer and a Gentleman or as Tom Cruise did for Kelly McGillis in Top Gun (I know…a cheesy-at-times, film…but, hey, hot romance was involved!). This is definitely a must-try variation of the Mojito. I adore Blackberries and sweet-tart anything and the color magenta makes me swoon! Thank you Brandy for sharing and thank you Ali for featuring this spellbinding cocktail on your blog! xo
