2011 was a year of unprecedented change in our family. It was a year of sickness and and a year of new-found health. It was a year of questions, and a year of answers that we sometimes didn’t want to hear. It was a year of exciting adventures, and a year of new beginnings. It was a year of friends and fun and family, and a year of heartache and loss. And just when I thought we were done with the wild ride, it became the year my daughter was thrown from a horse and broke her leg. These past few days have been a difficult adjustment for all of us, as we struggle to come to terms with the pain of her injury, and her loss of freedom, privacy and mobility. She will be in a full leg cast for at least a month, followed by a short leg cast for at least another, and is currently wheelchair bound…with occasional short hops behind a walker.
And so we ended our year the same way we began it, with a problem that we must overcome–a curve-ball that was quite unexpected, and not welcome at all. Through it all, we’ve been surrounded by wonderful and supportive friends and family, and blessed with things that were quite unexpected…but in a good way. And it’s our trials that make the good times even more sweet. Here’s wishing you a very happy, prosperous and healthy new year!
May your joys be as bright as the morning,
And your sorrows merely be shadows that fade,
In the sunlight of love.
May you have enough
happiness to keep you sweet.
Enough trials to keep you strong.
Enough sorrows to keep you human.
Enough hope to keep you happy.
Enough failure to keep you humble.
Enough success to keep you eager.
Enough friends to give you comfort.
Enough faith and courage in yourself to banish sadness.
Enough wealth to meet your needs.
And one thing more: enough
determination to make each day a more wonderful day
than the day before.
